Smart locks compared: which one fits your door?
The right smart lock depends on your door before anything else. A uPVC door with a multipoint lock needs a different smart lock from a timber door with a Yale-style nightlatch. Below we compare nine smart locks we sell and fit, by door type, how they open, power and price.
Prices are our prices on 7 November 2026. Security ratings and remote-access options are the makers' own; "-" means we have not confirmed one for the lock as sold, so check the product page.

What actually matters when you choose
1. It has to fit your lock, not just your door
uPVC and composite doors mostly use multipoint locks, where you lift the handle to throw hooks and bolts along the edge of the door. A smart handle such as the Ultion Nuki or Yale Conexis L2 works that mechanism. A cylinder smart lock (PROLOK, Bold) replaces only the key barrel and works on almost any euro cylinder door. Before ordering, measure your cylinder: from the centre screw to each end.
2. Decide how people will get in
Fingerprints suit a family; PIN codes suit visitors, cleaners and guests; cards and fobs suit children and older relatives who don't use a phone. If you let the property out, pick a lock that issues time-limited codes.
3. Bluetooth works only near the door
Most smart locks talk to your phone by Bluetooth. To lock, unlock or check the door from work or on holiday you need a Wi-Fi bridge. Some kits include it (Yale Conexis L2 with hub); for others it is an add-on.
4. Check the batteries and the backup
Most smart locks warn you in the app when the battery is low. Most of these keep a mechanical key as a backup; the Bold SX-33 has no key and uses a backup PIN instead; the Smartek nightlatch smart lock also takes 5V emergency power.
5. Insurance
Some home insurers ask for British Standard locks on final exit doors. Check your policy before replacing a British Standard lock with a smart lock, and ask us if you are unsure which locks meet the standard.

Frequently asked questions
Which smart lock is best for a uPVC door?
If you want a smart handle that works your multipoint lock, the Ultion Nuki and Yale Conexis L2 are built for UK uPVC and composite doors. If you want to keep your handles, a cylinder smart lock such as the PROLOK replaces only the key barrel.
Can a smart lock be fitted to a timber door?
Yes. A timber door with a Yale-style nightlatch can take a nightlatch smart lock or the Yale Keyless Connected. A timber door with a euro cylinder can take a cylinder smart lock.
What happens if the battery runs out?
Most smart locks warn you in the app before the battery runs out. Most of these locks also keep a mechanical key; the Bold SX-33 uses a backup PIN instead.
Do I need Wi-Fi?
No. They all work at the door without Wi-Fi. You only need Wi-Fi (through a bridge) to use the lock when you are away from home.
