Case study: keypad smart locks for two new-build flats in Liverpool
In January 2025 our locksmiths fitted keypad smart locks to the entrance doors of two new-build flats in Liverpool city centre. We planned the whole job from photos and a short video before the visit.

The job
- Where: Liverpool city centre (L3), January 2025
- Doors: white flat entrance doors in a new-build block, each with a lever handle and a euro cylinder in a mortice lock case
- Fitted: a keypad smart lock on each door, replacing the key cylinder, with the original lever handles kept
What we did
- Checked the doors remotely. The owner sent a video, and the building's developer sent photos of the door and lock. That showed us the lock case and cylinder type, so we could bring the right parts first time.
- Swapped the cylinder for the smart lock. The smart lock replaces the key cylinder in the existing lock case, so the door did not need recutting.
- Set up and tested. We fitted fresh batteries, set the codes and checked each door locked and unlocked from both sides.
What to take from this job
- You don't need to be there to plan it. Clear photos of the door edge, the handle and the cylinder are usually enough for us to confirm what fits.
- Keep the handle you like. A cylinder-type smart lock works with the lever handle already on the door.
- Good for flats you let out. Codes can be changed between tenants without changing the lock.
