In October 2026 our locksmith replaced a worn mortice sashlock on an old timber door in Islington (N1), starting at 8am the morning after it was booked.

The job

  • Where: Islington, London (N1), October 2026
  • Door: old painted timber door
  • Fitted: a 3 lever mortice sashlock

What we did

  1. Removed the old sashlock, which was worn and rusted inside.
  2. Matched the new sashlock to the old case size and backset, so the door did not need recutting.
  3. Fitted the new lock, handle spindle and keep, and checked the latch and bolt.

Worth knowing

  • Match the case size. Measuring the old lock first means the new one drops into the same pocket.
  • Sashlock or deadlock? A sashlock has a handle and latch as well as the bolt; a deadlock has the bolt only.
