Lock change: two cylinders on uPVC French doors in Birmingham

In October 2026 our locksmith replaced both cylinders on a set of uPVC French doors in Birmingham (B8) on the day they were booked. The doors were thick, so they needed longer 95mm cylinders.

The job

  • Where: Birmingham (B8), October 2026
  • Doors: white uPVC French doors
  • Fitted: two 95mm euro cylinders (45/50)

What we did

  1. Measured each cylinder from the centre screw: 45mm on one side and 50mm on the other.
  2. Fitted both new cylinders.
  3. Checked both doors locked and the cylinders did not stick out too far.

Worth knowing

  • Not every door takes a 70mm cylinder. The most common size we fit is 70mm (35/35), but thicker doors need longer ones.
  • A cylinder should not stick out more than about 3mm. A cylinder that projects too far is easier to snap.

Shop anti-snap cylinders.
