Lock change: new mortice deadlock on an oak flat door in Westminster

On an October evening in 2026 our locksmith fitted a new mortice deadlock to an oak flat entrance door in Westminster (SW1P).

The job

  • Where: Westminster, London (SW1P), October 2026
  • Door: oak veneer flat entrance door
  • Fitted: a 3 lever mortice deadlock

What we did

  1. Checked the size of the existing lock pocket in the door edge.
  2. Fitted the new deadlock and its keep.
  3. Tested the bolt throw and handed over the new keys the same evening.

Worth knowing

  • Flats often need a second lock. A deadlock alongside the latch means the door is locked with a key, not just shut.
  • Check your lease and insurer. Some buildings and insurers specify the lock grade for flat entrance doors. A 5 lever British Standard lock meets most insurer requirements.
