Lock change: British Standard cylinder on a composite door in Colchester

In October 2026 our locksmith changed the cylinder on a red composite front door in Colchester (CO2) on the day it was booked, fitting a new British Standard euro cylinder.

The job

  • Where: Colchester (CO2), October 2026
  • Door: red composite front door with a multipoint lock
  • Fitted: a British Standard Kitemarked euro cylinder

What we did

  1. Measured the old cylinder from the centre screw to each end, so the new one sat flush with the handles.
  2. Took out the old cylinder with the retaining screw on the door edge.
  3. Fitted the British Standard cylinder, refitted the screw and checked the lock with every new key.

Worth knowing

  • Composite doors use the same cylinders as uPVC. Changing the cylinder changes the keys, without touching the rest of the lock.
  • Look for the Kitemark. A cylinder marked TS007 or BS EN 1303 has been tested against common attacks.
