Lock change: broken multipoint lock on a uPVC door in Ilkeston

In October 2026 a homeowner in Ilkeston (DE7) could not lock their uPVC door: the multipoint mechanism inside the door edge had broken. Our locksmith replaced it with a matching mechanism.

The job

  • Where: Ilkeston, Derbyshire (DE7), October 2026
  • Door: white uPVC door with a multipoint lock
  • Fitted: a replacement Avocet multipoint mechanism

What we did

  1. Took out the full lock strip from the door edge and found the broken part.
  2. Matched the replacement to the old strip: the same backset, centres and locking points.
  3. Fitted the new mechanism and checked the hooks and rollers met the keeps on the frame.

Worth knowing

  • Stiff handle first, broken lock later. A handle that gets harder to lift is often the first sign the mechanism is wearing out.
  • Gearbox or whole lock? If only the centre case has failed, a gearbox is enough. Here the strip itself was damaged.
